City of Mission Fire Interface Development Permit
The Fire Interface Development Permit is intended to protect new building and development from potential wildfire risk in the City of Mission.
When do you Need a Fire Interface Development Permit?
The map below shows the Fire Interface Development Permit Area. A Fire Interface Development Permit is required for any subdivision, rezoning, or new construction that requires a building permit in this area.
Fire Interface Development Permit Guidelines and Requirements
New development within the Fire Interface Development Permit Area must follow the guidelines described in Appendix D of the Official Community Plan. This includes:
- Locating new buildings or structures as far away from wildfire risk as is reasonably possible
- Building consistent with the highest current wildfire protection standards published by the National Fire Protection Association
- Using fire retardant and fire-resistant building materials, as specified in the OCP
- Creating a defensible space of at least 10 metres around buildings and structures, where coniferous evergreen tree plantings are not allowed
- Other guidelines described in Appendix D of the OCP
The City of Mission may also require a site-specific fire interface report prepared by a qualified professional forester to ensure compliance with the OCP guidelines.
